Distortion is a dimensional change that occurs after the heat treatment process. Dimensional changes can reduce the function of the workpiece. Distortion can be seen from several aspects, including dimensional distortion and plane flatnessThis study aims to analyze the amount of material distortion that may occur after the hardening process on AISI 4340 and AISI 4140 , Navy C-Ring used to specimen materials, with variations in material thickness of 5 mm, 10 mm and 15 mm and variations in oil, water and water + oil quenching media. This study uses an experimental method starting from the manufacture of specimens to the hardening process. Analysis of research data using the Taguchi method and the data studied include flatness, gap, inner diameter and outer diameter. The results showed that the thickness of the material affects the distortion on Flatness material 4340, Gap material 4140 and Outer diameter material 4340 and 4140. Quenching media affects distortion on Flatness material 4140, Gap material 4340 and Inner diameter material 4340 and 4140. Material 4140 and material 4340 have almost the same distortion value with each aspect of its own assessment.
